Thank You!

What an incredible outpouring of support from our parent community for Teacher Appreciation Week! Between the flowers, the cards, the fruit, and the delicious lunch, we are reminded of what a truly special pace this is.

From all of us, thank you.

Principal's Newsletter -- April 24, 2009

  • This coming Friday I will be temporarily stepping down from my post. Harrison Lee, 4th grader extraordinaire, will be Principal for the Day. He'll be shadowing me through an action-packed morning of assembly introductions and parent coffees. Please remember that it is a half day for students.
  • Friday's Principal's Coffee will be directed toward parents of current 2nd graders, with information regarding configuration at Smith Elementary next year.
  • We will be offering students at grades 3, 4, 7 & 8 a second opportunity at the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS) during the week. Some students who did not quite meet benchmarks will retest; as well, a number of students will be retaking to improve upon their previous scores. Grades 5 and 6 will follow by one week. If you would like your child to retake one of these tests, please contact the teacher.
  • I would like to announce a slight schedule change -- Green Up Day will be held on Sunday, May 3rd rather than Saturday, May 2nd.
Have a lovely weekend.

Children's Author Lecture a Huge Success

8th grader Sam Bentzinger introduces author Jon Scieszka at the First Congregational Church in downtown Portland Monday evening.

The performance: he was hilarious.

5th grade ushers get some face time.
