Principal's Newsletter -- March 13, 2009

Thank you to everybody who made Spring conferences such a success this year! I really appreciate that teachers invest such energy in making communication a top priority, and that parents are so willing to wait graciously for precious few minutes.

  • This is Spirit Week! The schedule follows:
Tuesday, March 17th-- Go Green Day
    Wednesday, March 18th-- Wacky Day
    Thursday, March 19th--- Decade Day
Friday, March 20th --- PJ Day
  • I would like to take a moment to commend a number of students whose musical talents and hard work have brought great honor to Riverdale. Molly Scholz worked with students to prepare for the District 14 vocal and instrumental competitions, and many of the students put an incredible amount of additional practice into their preparation. Their achievement merits mention here: Chloe Larkin and Huxley Nauheim were honored for their vocal talents. On the instrumental side the following students received "superior" ratings: PJ Hummelt (french horn), Sam Bentzinger and John Carey (saxophone), Hannah Ruddoff (clarinet), Jenna Porter (trumpet), and Riley Hutchings (flute).
  • Remember that Spring Break begins next Monday, the 23rd.
  • The lost and found collection is at capacity. Please check the bins outside the gym. We'll sort and look for names in coats this week, but many of the items in the bins are not labeled.

Principal's Newsletter -- March 8, 2009

Spring conferences are already here! If you have not yet made an appointment to come speak with your child's teachers, please do so as soon as possible. I will send a separate email to parents of 5th-8th graders speaking directly to some of the changes we are making to impact the conference format in a positive way.

  • Tickets for the 12th annual Children's Author Lecture are available in the office. This year the author is John Scieszka, and the event is scheduled for April 20th at 7:00 at the First Congregational Church downtown.
  • Mark your calendars for Cabaret 2009! The shows will be May 14-16 in the Grade School Gymnasium. Mr. Mandis will be assisted in directing the performance by musical director Kurt Crowley, as well as the multi-talented Mrs. Scholz who will work with select numbers. In addition, the show would not be possible without the support of innumerable parent volunteers!
  • The lost and found collection is at capacity. Please check the bins outside the gym.
