Recent Events:
If you didn't catch the championship basketball game on Tuesday evening, or the 5-8 music concert on Thursday night, or both, you missed out.
Congratulations to the 8th grade boys for their come-from-behind victory against Kingsway!
4th grader Brynne O'Shea swam 160 laps in the spirit of service, raising much needed money for ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. This is exactly the kind of spirit we want to celebrate and encourage. Way to go Brynne!
Nuts & Bolts:
Note to K-4 parents: because of the amount of time required to assist younger children with their microwavables, we respectfully request that you refrain from packing them until 5th grade.
End of Trimester/Electives:
The end of the second trimester is upon us, this coming Thursday. 7-8 elective forms are coming home today, and should be returned expediently. Please note the new elective offerings: "In the Greenhouse with the Librarian," "Web Design," "Improvisation," and "Service Leadership." The offerings and descriptions can be found here.
*I want to especially encourage our young ladies to try their hand at Web Design and Mathletics. Too often, we allow socially poisonous stereotypes to exacerbate existing problems; we have a huge national problem around gender and engineering. When we allow shoddily produced media and social influences to affect fully 1/2 of our children, we do ourselves a horrible and irreversible disservice. (I'm not trying to over-blow the issue, nor to suggest that we can fix it right here, right now. But, we can and should encourage all of our children to reach their full potential, and explore every academic angle available. If not here, where?)
**Sometimes, our primary families never have access to the middle-school side of our school -- what is offered, etc. Taking a sneak peek might prove an interesting exercise.
